How is chimpanzee habituation done?
All chimpanzee habituation experiences in Kibale National Park should begin at around 6:30 a.m. In addition, the chimpanzee habituation experiences are done by tracking a semi-habituated chimpanzee troop and observing them for 4 hours once encountered. But first, you will be briefed by the park personnel before setting out for the experience. You will join researchers and habituators in the forest to look for the chimpanzees.
Tracking the chimpanzee troop includes looking for their trails, footprints, disturbed vegetation, food leftovers, and their most recent nesting site. How to reach there?
Reaching Kibale National Park for a chimpanzee habituation experience can be either by road or air transport. The park, by road, is only 276 kilometers to the west of Kampala. In 5-6 hours, you will reach to enjoy your chimpanzee habituation experience. Using air transportation is only done on a domestic flight. From Kampala, you will have to go to Entebbe International Airport to board a scheduled flight. These head to the nearby airport, which is Kasese airstrip.
A flight takes 1 hour and 15 minutes under normal circumstances. Now, from Kasese airstrip, you will need ground transportation to Kibale National Park. The distance covered is around 51 kilometers.
