5 days Rwanda safari

Overview

These 5 days of Rwanda safari will take you to Nyungwe Forest National Park. It is famously known for chimpanzee trekking and the canopy walk. Stop over at Butare National Museum, which has everything concerning Rwanda before colonization.

You will do gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. This is Rwanda’s oldest park, housing the mountain gorillas. After all these activities, you will again drive back to Kigali. This is the starting and ending point for your 5 days Rwanda safari before flying back home.

Day 1: Kigali

You will arrive at Kigali International Airport and be welcomed by our company guide driver. He will take you to the lodge for your booking in Kigali. You will check in later and head out for a city tour.

Day 2: Travel to Nyungwe with a stopover at Butare National Museum

After your breakfast in the morning, you will travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Make a stopover at the Butare National Museum for a moment to have a look at Rwanda’s culture before colonisation. Enjoy the country’s historical and geographical background and its history through the winding roads. Also, reach the King’s Palace in Nyanza after proceeding with the journey to check in at the hotel.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

After breakfast, drive to Uwinka, one of the trails used while trekking chimpanzees in Nyungwe. There will be a briefing, and then led to the park by the ranger guide to look for the chimpanzees. You will as well be looking at monkeys, birds, different tree species and plants, and many more.

When you come face to face with the chimpanzees, you will be given one hour in their presence. After that, its retreat to the lodge for your lunch. Later in the evening, relax before heading for a canopy walk. Enjoy an aerial view of the Nyungwe Forest and other surroundings. Dinner at your lodge.

Day 4: Drive to Volcanoes national park

Having had your breakfast in the morning, head on your relaxing drive to Volcanoes National Park in the Northwestern part of Rwanda with a stopover in Gisenyi for your lunch overlooking the blue waters of lake Kivu and after embark on your journey to lodge near volcanoes that were booked for you.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and departure

Wake up for an early breakfast and later drive to the starting point as early as 6:00 so that you won’t be late for the experience. After reaching the starting point, you will be briefed by the Park ranger guide on the rules and regulations followed while gorilla trekking. Then he will lead you to the allocated gorilla family for you to trek.

You will spend a maximum of 8 hours in the jungle looking for these gentle giants but once sighted you will spend only one hour in their sight.

This one hour that is given to you is spent you observing their behaviors, taking photos and asking anything you want to know about mountain gorillas. After your experience, move back to the lodge for lunch and immediately check out from the lodge and drive back to Kigali for your flight back home.
