5 days Mgahinga Gorilla trekking safari and Lake Mutanda

Overview

The safari will begin at the airport in Entebbe and take you to Mgahinga national park for gorilla trekking. This is the smallest national park in the country with area coverage of 31 Square kilometers but with rare golden monkeys and the endangered mountain gorillas.

The park has two groups of gorillas and these are Hirwa and Nyakagezi but it is worth an experience to visit one of the groups since you will never regret it. The next day you will head to Lake Mutanda that is among one unique lake in Uganda with islands. The enroute stopovers are worth for en-route lunch and visiting the Uganda equator in Kayabwe.

Day1. Arrive and transfer to a hotel in Kampala

Depending on your arrival time, the driver guide will be at the airport eagerly to receive you and in case arrive early, you will take a small city excursion of Entebbe and places to visit are the Uganda reptile village, Entebbe Botanical Gardens, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre among others.

Drive to Kampala at a booked hotel and if you are a fun of night then, Kampala offers the best Casinos, clubs, bars among other places that one can hang out from.

Day2. Transfer to Mgahinga national park with a stopover at the Uganda equator and Mbarara for enroute lunch

Head to Mgahinga national park a journey taking about 7 to 8 hours passing the Uganda equator in Kayabwe for photography and experiments and then proceed and have another stopover in Mbarara for enroute lunch.

Mgahinga National park is the smallest national park and has different wildlife that normally attracts different tourists and these are the primates such as the endangered mountain gorillas and the rare golden monkeys, bird species of which 14 are endemics of the Albertine rift valley. Have dinner and take a nap on the arrival.

Day3. Gorilla trekking day and Batwa community walk

Have a great adventure of gorilla trekking in Mgahinga national park after briefing and it normally takes about 4 hours and only 8 visitors are allowed to trek one gorilla family per day. Walking through the hilly forested area that favors gorilla breeding and other biodiversity like plant species, bird species that normally co-exist with each other, gives a beautiful moment.

After an experience of gorilla trekking to one of the groups either Hirwa family or Nyakagezi gorilla family, you will head back to the lodge where you will spend some time and have lunch which will be followed by visiting the Batwa community. The trails normally take you back to the forest where you will discover the caves, herbal medics and taste the wild fruits with a help of a Batwa guide. Head back to the lodge after this amazing adventure.

Day4. Transfer to Lake Mutanda, boat cruise and leisure

Have a leisurely breakfast and take a short drive of about 2 hours to reach Lake Mutanda.

This is one of the fascinating lakes in Uganda with dotted hills and on arriving; you will take a boat cruise to be able to visit some islands. You have a chance to chill and relax at one of the resorts while watching over the calm waters of the lake.

Day5. Transfer back to Kampala and enroute lunch

The driver-guide will pack your language into your vehicle and start the journey to Kampala with an enroute lunch in Kayabwe at the Uganda equator.

At this point, you will also have a chance to take photos while standing on both sides. Later on, the driver guide will drop you at the Entebbe International Airport to Hotel depending on your choice.
